Instagram by Aman Sridhar

I've been exposed to both hate and love for Instagram, and I'm sure you have to.

I'm starting to rediscover why the app is in fact so great.

Lately, I've been posting a lot on my account (follow me here), and what I've discovered is beautiful. The community of photographers passionate about their craft is massive.

I've found travel and landscape photographers, concert photographers, fashion photographers and portrait photographers who have inspired me like crazy. And of course, there's the badass rock climbing photographers, who continue to crush it.

All of this points me in just one direction. It motivates me to interact with people more, explore different styles of photography and soak up as much knowledge as I can.

Steal Like an Artist, as Austin Kleon and Chase Jarvis would say.

Instagram receives a lot of (undeserved) hate, because it gives people the chance to explore an art with something so simple.

I've been on the app for ages now, but only now have I truly started tapping into its reserves.

I plan on continuing for a long, long time.

What are your thoughts? Do you think I'm way too full of myself?

Let me know in the comments, and share some love/hate with others too.

Spotlight #2 - The beautiful monstrosity by Aman Sridhar

This week's picture is one from my trip to Rajasthan a while back.

I remember it was one of the first few times I actually began exploring photography quite seriously.

Take a look below:

PS - in case you don't recognize it, this is the fort where they shot a few scenes when filming for The Dark Knight Rises.

Sri Lanka by Aman Sridhar

Sri Lanka was a couple of years ago.

I remember the trip really well, because I remember feeling excited during my journey there.

Sri Lanka is one of those very under explored places, and I was eager to see what the country was all about.

Despite it being basically a bridge away from India's southern most point, I had the feeling that it would be way different.

And it was.

The landscape was stunning. I tried to capture it while also leaving as much space as I could. It was also quite a change to see so much blue in the sky, considering I had spent the majority of my life in one of the greyest cities in the world - Delhi.

The gallery below is a short collection of some of the pictures that I feel are the best out of the massive bulk of stuff I have.

Take a look, and leave a comment below! What was one place you visited that really blew your mind?

Spotlight #1 - The white in the black by Aman Sridhar

I'm introducing a segment where each week I choose one photo and talk about it.

Simple enough.

The pictures are ones that I truly find amazing - either mine, or anywhere off the internet. Credit will obviously given to photographers whose pictures I'm using.

This week's picture is one that I found while going through my ridiculous stockpile of photos that I have spread out across my hard drives.

So why is this picture so special?

Honestly, I can't tell you the one thing that really made me go "wow."

This picture was one of several I took when I was in Sri Lanka a few years back, and is just a generic landscape shot.

I took in colour, and switched it to what you see now in the post-processing phase.

It was as I was editing it, however, when I really felt it.

The vastness of the sky, and the streak of white that cuts vertically across it.

Something in me just went "holy fuck, this is it!" and I knew that I had to leave it in black and white, with the contrast, brightness and everything else tuned to exactly what it is.

When I look at it, I see a dystopian land that has ravaged everything, but yet there's some serenity and peace to it. Life is simple, plain and continues to move on.

That could be pretentious as fuck for all I know, but it's a feeling I can't change.

I would love to hear what you think, though!

Rajasthan by Aman Sridhar

The summer of 2013. Blistering heat in the desert.

And yet there was a sense of calmness about the place.

Rajasthan is the most arid region in all of India, but my trip was a lot of fun. I'd spend my days soaking in the sun and the evenings drinking cool beer.

The pictures I captured were on a camera that is rudimentary to say the least. Yet, I quite like them.

I decided to change it up and switch them all to Black and White for this gallery. There's also a reason for the heavy contrast.

Shots that were taken after the sun went down were under extremely low light. Rather than mess with the settings to a ridiculous level that would result in a lot of noise, I decided I'd just adjust them in post and make an art project around it.

I honestly love how all the pictures turned out despite some blue here and there, and the less than perfect editing.

I'd love to hear your thoughts too. Leave a comment down below on what you think of the gallery!
